Friendships count not friend count!
This is a talk I delivered at TEDxCardiff in April 2011 about 'rediscovering friendship!' It is about what inspired this website, why it is important to talk about friendship, and how media and communications is changing not so much the meaning of friendship or what it means to be a friend ... but how we enact, share and celebrate friendship through and with digital media and communications.
- A friend is not about Facebook, it is about friendship.
- Friendship is not a word, but a behaviour, it is something we do, share and celebrate.
- Friendship can be enacted in so many different ways with and through media and communications.
- It is our choice how we use media to enact, share and celebrate friendship.
- share + enact + celebrate / media & communications = friendship.
A big thanks to Rachel Williams, Ellie Collins and Dan Middleton (fellow bloggers on this blog) and their friends at Cardiff University, who were part of the inspiration for the start of this initiative and Rachel Williams who provided some of the film footage included in this talk.
Dedicated: to all my students, friends and colleagues who have show me everyday ... that what really matters is how we behave as friends in an every changing and digitally connected world.
Smiles
Kelly.
